Mother was a paranoid schizophrenic and an abusive parent who told me she wished I’d never been born. She killed herself when I was 15, leaving a message that she still rejected me. My father sent me to several psychiatrists after that but I could trust nobody -- except Dr. Ian Kent. He wasn’t smooth like the others. He didn’t try to finesse me. For years I trusted his guidance but I went to the brink of despair while in his care. Finally I left. Doctors, lawyers, professors and business executives followed him like a guru; I believed the failure was mine. Not until I read his book did I realize that maybe I wasn’t the crazy one. Killing Buddha is about therapy bleeding into cultism, crossing the line unnoticed. It’s about devastation and survival.

Killing Buddha An Account of Surviving Abuse and Therapy eBook Dagmar M Reviews
Brought up by a mother who really disliked her and a very sanguine father, the author was very needy even as an adult, longing to have the approval and loyalty and love that was lacking in her childhood. Her mother commuted suicide while she was still a child so her dad became her rock. He recommended a certain psychiatrist to her. With cult like interactions, he and the groups he ran became as the voice of God to her. Should she, can she, will she break loose or will he make all her life choices for her?
book
This book was a drudge. I didn't enjoy anyone in it and found it to be a long, self-indulgent whine with no real resolution. I was into the beginning because my own mother was much like the author's mother and I hoped her path to recovery would feel more victorious. It just felt like a lot of going nowhere and was quite depressing.
Very good book.
Terrible book, slow read, really doesn't go anywhere.
